Google Unveils Mobile Friendly Tag in Searches
Remember when we posted about the importance of having a mobile-friendly website? Google just unveiled another reason to add to that list: Mobile-friendly tags.
Now, whenever you perform a search on a mobile device, the list of search results will include whether or not each site is mobile-friendly.
Now, instead of enduring the frustration of scrolling, pinching, zooming, and generally having a difficult time viewing a non-mobile-friendly website on their smart phones or tablets, users can choose not to visit those sites at all.
Additionally, many people believe that Google’s algorithm for displaying search results will begin to demote sites that do not qualify for the mobile-friendly tag.
Criteria for receiving a mobile-friendly tag in search results
- Websites that avoid software that is not common on mobile devices (flash)
- Websites that have readable text on mobile devices without the need to zoom
- Websites that reformat to fit the screen so that users do not have to scroll horizontally to view the entire site
- Links are far enough apart and are size so that they are easily tapped
