3 Reasons Why Teletherapy Could Be the Boost Your Practice Needs
Teletherapy has become commonplace in today’s behavioral health industry, but there are still plenty of private practices who haven’t taken advantage of this new medium.
Teletherapy is the act of providing therapy remotely through the internet, typically by video chat. While there are a few myths surrounding teletherapy, the good news is that it’s not only easy to get started, but there are many benefits that it can add to your practice.
Why should you consider taking the leap to add a new service to your practice, or even point your whole practice towards teletherapy? Here are 3 reasons that you should seriously consider offering teletherapy to your existing and potential clients.

3 Reasons Why Teletherapy is the Boost Your Practice Needs
1. Increase Your Client Base
Right off the bat, offering teletherapy will help you tap into a whole new market of potential clients who simply wouldn’t be able or willing to come into your office for a session. The reasons for this can be diverse, from a client being housebound to a client living and working too far away for a regular visit to your location.
Since you can generally offer teletherapy to anyone in the state where you’re licensed, adding it to your services instantly adds a whole state full of people to your “local” potential clients. Just imagine how much more likely you are to pull in your ideal client when you have that much reach!
(Please note, since teletherapy laws can vary slightly by state, it’s important to check out the regulations for your area.)

2. Work from Home
One huge benefit of offering therapy remotely over the internet is that you don’t have to give sessions in a typical office environment. In fact, there’s nothing to say that you couldn’t remotely see all your clients over the internet while in your home!
With the flexibility of teletherapy, you could add even more clients by taking advantage of non-typical work hours, or you could simply start working from home a day or two a week. The beauty of working remotely is that it gives you the freedom to customize your work schedule.
To effectively implement teletherapy, you’ll need a client management solution that supports secure video appointments. There are many solutions out there to accomplish this, but our favorite is Simple Practice.
3. Keep More of Your Income
As a private practice owner, you know that running a business comes with a lot of little costs and fees that help keep things moving smoothly. For example, ordinarily there’s an office rental cost associated with running a practice – but there doesn’t have to be.
Emphasizing teletherapy in your practice means that you have the option to ditch a traditional office altogether, eliminating that rent payment from your required business expenses.
Even if you’re not ready to give up your office entirely, you may be able to work out an arrangement to pay less on your lease if you are only using your office for part of the week (while you give teletherapy from home for the other part!).
Disadvantages of Teletherapy
Not every practice is ready for teletherapy. If you already have a full caseload of clients that are committed to joining you in office, you may not need to add on the offering of teletherapy. Additionally, if you are a new therapist just starting your practice, it may be helpful to first build up a caseload and become comfortable seeing clients in person.
However, if you’re comfortable seeing clients remotely, looking for a way to add even more flexibility to your work schedule, or to increase your number of sessions or clients per week, teletherapy is a great way to accomplish your goals!
