How to Use Video to Strengthen Your Therapist Blog and Grow Your Practice
Do you get stuck wondering what to blog about? Do you sit in front of your computer ready to type, and then nothing comes? Or maybe you know that regularly sharing content is essential for practice growth, but writer’s block has stopped you cold?
We have a helpful tip for you to employ when the creative rut strikes. Instead of feeling disheartened, you can use that stagnation to fuel inspiration to create authentic and engaging content.
How?
In a word: Video!
Video: A powerful tool to silence writer’s block
Video can lure words forth effortlessly. Interestingly, this is based on the physiology of the brain. Research published by Johns Hopkins University found that “It’s as though there were two quasi-independent language systems in the brain” — one for writing, the other for speaking. This is where the magic lies.
Most people have vastly more experience speaking than writing, so the brain is wired more strongly for the former. When we sit down to scribe, it might feel foreign and difficult. Yet, when we open our mouths to speak, the words flow. This is why video can cure writer’s block. So…
Speak to your strong suit
Start by writing down a list of questions or topics that clients ask. Choose one as your inspiration. Then simply set up your video and start recording yourself answering the question or speaking to the topic. This can be turned into a transcription, which can be used as a blog post. Voila!
Once you have a recording in hand, there are several ways to transcribe it:
- Yourself
- An assistant
- A freelancer
- A company like Rev.com that specializes in transcription
There are also tools available that can transcribe as you speak, or after completion:
- Otter for real-time transcription
- Happy Scribe for transcription and subtitles
- Sonix for rapid transcription
Now that you have a transcription, you have the bulk of a blog post! A quick edit and proof and you’re ready for the upload. If you’re worried about your video not sounding “perfectly professional,” relax. The conversational tone will lend a layer of personality and build trust. It’s also easier for a visitor to read. Think storytelling rather than textbook style.
But the benefits don’t stop here. Video, when used right, can add a magnetic spark to your blog posts.
Enhance impact and SEO with video
To make your words more meaningful and article more dynamic, embed sound bites or video clips from your recording throughout your blog post. These clips should include information that is important to emphasize like a great explanation, a key takeaway, or an effective tip.

Adding multi-media to your blog posts will also increase your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and drive more traffic to your practice’s website. Search engines like Google have ranking algorithms that increasingly prioritize websites with video content.
Again, this can be done in various ways:
If you love technology, you can learn by yourself. A tool like Audacity is ideal whether you are a beginner or advanced. If not, a switched-on assistant or a freelancer can do this for you.
You can also embed the entire video into the blog, giving your viewers the option to read or view it. But, why stop there?
Share, share, share!
Now that you’ve created these video clips, why not share them on social media? These brief clips can attract attention and — when compelling — can go viral. To make this process easy, take the corresponding video clip and its written version and upload it to your practice’s social media accounts. And remember, always mention and share a link to the blog post so they can learn more information. At the end of the day, one of the main purposes of content creation is to convert viewers into clients. To help them discover why you are the expert they need to see.
With this in mind, you should always consider the likely return on investment before you spend time creating content. Think about how to maximize everything you do. Like in this example of blog creation. We’ve combined video and blog to speed up the process of producing content. Then, with clips and social media, we pour on the rocket fuel and limit wasted time.
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest (and more) all host videos. Yes, the size might need to be altered — for example, vertical videos often work better when Facebook is viewed on a mobile — but this approach is a quick way to get the word out and connect with old, current, and potential clients.
